Bookmarks in Google Chrome provide a convenient way to save frequently visited websites for quick access. By default, Chrome allows users to add, edit, organize, and delete bookmarks. However, there may be situations where you want to disable bookmark editing to prevent accidental changes or keep a shared bookmark collection unchanged. This article explains how to enable or disable bookmark editing in Google Chrome on Windows 11 using the Registry Editor and Local Group Policy Editor.
You can modify the EditBookmarksEnabled value to control whether users are allowed to edit bookmarks.
Press Win + R to open the Run dialog box, type regedit, and press Enter. Click Yes if the User Account Control prompt appears.
In Registry Editor, navigate to the following location:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Google\Chrome
If the Google or Chrome key does not exist, right-click the corresponding parent key, select New > Key, and create the missing keys manually.
Right-click an empty area in the right pane, select New > DWORD (32-bit) Value, and name it EditBookmarksEnabled.
Double-click EditBookmarksEnabled and configure its Value data according to your preference:
Click OK to save the changes.
Local Group Policy Editor provides another way to manage bookmark editing in Chrome. This method is available on Windows 11 Pro, Enterprise, and Education editions.
Press Win + R, type gpedit.msc, and click OK to open Local Group Policy Editor.
Navigate to the following path:
Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Google > Google Chrome
Find and double-click Enable or disable bookmark editing in the right pane.
In the policy configuration window, select the option that meets your needs:
Click Apply and OK to save the configuration.
Enabling or disabling bookmark editing in Google Chrome is a useful way to manage how bookmarks are handled on Windows 11. Whether you want to prevent unwanted changes or restore normal bookmark management, both Registry Editor and Local Group Policy Editor offer straightforward solutions.
