11.Windows SmartScreen or Smart App Control is blocking the WiseCleaner installer. How do I proceed?

Windows SmartScreen and Smart App Control may flag lesser-known software as unverified. WiseCleaner installers are safe and digitally signed. To proceed:
  1. 1. When the SmartScreen warning appears, click 'More info'.
  2. 2. Click 'Run anyway' to proceed with the installation.
If Smart App Control (Windows 11) is blocking the installer entirely with no Run anyway option, you may need to temporarily disable it: go to Windows Security > App & browser control > Smart App Control settings > set to Off. You can re-enable it after installation.

12.My antivirus (Bitdefender, Avast, Windows Defender, etc.) is blocking or removing a WiseCleaner program. What should I do?

This is a false positive — WiseCleaner software does not contain malware. Security software occasionally flags legitimate optimization tools due to the nature of the system-level operations they perform (such as modifying registry entries or deleting files). To resolve this:
  1. 1. Restore the quarantined file from your antivirus quarantine vault.
  2. 2. Add the WiseCleaner program's installation folder (e.g., C:\Program Files (x86)\Wise Care 365) to your antivirus exclusion/whitelist list.
  3. 3. Re-run the program.
If you need guidance on adding an exclusion for your specific antivirus product, please contact our support team.

4.I purchased a license for multiple PCs. Do I get separate keys for each PC?

No. A multi-PC license uses a single license key that can be activated on the number of computers specified in your order (e.g., a 3-PC license uses the same key on all three PCs). Simply install the software on each computer and enter the same license key during activation.

5.I got a new computer and my license key no longer works / I've used up my activations. What should I do?

License keys for Wise Care 365 (and other WiseCleaner products) include a limited number of activations per machine. If you receive an error like activation limit reached or the key fails on your new computer, please contact our support team. Provide your registered email address or order number and let us know you are activating on a new machine. We will reset your activation count so you can register on your new PC at no charge.

6.How do I fix the 'You may be a victim of a pirated license key' error?

This error often occurs if a cracked version was previously installed and has modified your Windows hosts file to block WiseCleaner's registration server. To resolve it:
  1. 1. First, verify the block: press Win + R, type cmd, and run ping reg.wisecleaner.com. If the returned IP is 127.0.0.1, your connection is being redirected locally.
  2. 2. Close Wise Care 365.
  3. 3. Navigate to: C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc
  4. 4. Copy the hosts file to your Desktop (direct editing requires copying first due to Windows UAC protection).
  5. 5. Open the Desktop copy with Notepad, delete any entries related to wisecleaner, and save the file.
  6. 6. Copy the edited hosts file back to C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc and overwrite the existing file. Administrator privileges are required.
  7. 7. Relaunch Wise Care 365 and re-enter your license key.
You can also watch this video tutorial or illustrated tutorialfor a step-by-step guide.

7.Why does Wise Care 365 Pro ask for re-registration after every restart?

If you are not on the latest version, please download and install the most recent update, then re-enter your key. If you are already using the latest version, there may be a connection issue with our registration server.
  1. 1. Press Win + R, type cmd, and press Enter.
  2. 2. Type ping reg.wisecleaner.com and press Enter.
  3. 3. If the replied IP address is 127.0.0.1, your computer is blocked from connecting.
Follow the hosts file cleanup steps mentioned in the previous answer to fix this connection block.

8.Why am I receiving an 'Invalid license key' or 'Invalid registration code' error?

This error typically occurs for one of the following reasons:
  1. 1. Typos: Our license keys use the number 0 (zero), never the letter O. We recommend copying and pasting the key directly, ensuring there are no leading or trailing spaces.
  2. 2. Product Mismatch: You may be trying to activate the wrong software. For example, a Wise Duplicate Finder key will not work for Wise Care 365 — and a Wise Care 365 key will not work for Wise Folder Hider Pro. Check the product name shown in the activation window and verify it matches the product you purchased.
  3. 3. Incorrect or lost key: The key you have on hand may not be the correct one for your account.
If the error persists after checking the above, we can verify your registration information:
Please provide the email address you used when purchasing the software. Our system can look up your license and re-send the correct registration code to that email address.

1.What are the difference between Sleep and Hibernate?

Sleep, here refers to Hybrid Sleep, upgraded from legacy Sleep, is designed primarily for desktop computers. Hybrid sleep is a combination of sleep and hibernate—it puts any open documents and programs in memory and on your hard disk, and then puts your computer into a low-power state so that you can quickly resume your work. That way, if a power failure occurs, Windows can restore your work from your hard disk. When hybrid sleep is turned on, putting your computer into sleep automatically puts your computer into hybrid sleep. Hybrid sleep is typically turned on by default on desktop computers.
Hibernation is a power-saving state designed primarily for laptops. While sleep puts your work and settings in memory and draws a small amount of power, hibernation puts your open documents and programs on your hard disk, and then turns off your computer. Of all the power-saving states in Windows, hibernation uses the least amount of power. On a laptop, use hibernation when you know that you won't use your laptop for an extended period and won't have an opportunity to charge the battery during that time.

2.How to wake my computer from sleep or hibernation?

On most computers, you can resume working by pressing your computer's power button. However, not all computers are the same. You might be able to wake your computer by pressing any key on the keyboard, clicking a mouse button, or opening the lid on a laptop. Check the documentation that came with your computer or go to the manufacturer's website.

3.Will sleep eventually drain my laptop battery?

Sleep requires an extremely small amount of power—about the same as a nightlight. If your laptop battery charge gets critically low while the computer is asleep, Windows automatically puts the laptop into hibernation mode.

4.Is my data safe while my computer is asleep?

You can prevent unauthorized access by requiring a password to unlock your computer when it wakes from sleep.

5.What are the difference between Shutdown and Power Off?

The current power supply of mainframe is ATX. Instead of being completely cut off when turning off PC, ATX keeps a faint current on, which has been used as stand-by power model. By stand-by power, not only the PC's operation system could manipulate the power supply of computer, but also users could do that by software control. What’s more, it also makes power supply managed by networking possible.
A remote control signal would be sent to PC’s modem and the monitor circuit would activate the power by 5v to turn pc on. This is how to realize remote control. If the motherboard supports keyboard switch, users could also turn on PC by key pads.
All above functions requires keeping the power board on.

1.Why does Avast notify me that Wise Care 365 is trying to access my Google Chrome passwords?

Avast includes a password protection feature that triggers a notification when Wise Care 365's Common Cleaner attempts to scan the Google Chrome Saved Passwords option.
To solve this problem, please refer to the following steps.
  1. 1. Open Wise Care 365.
  2. 2. Navigate to System Cleaner and select Common Cleaner on the left panel.
  3. 3. Expand Traces in Computer > Web Browser Trace.
  4. 4. Uncheck Google Chrome Saved Passwords.
We generally do not recommend clearing saved browser passwords unless absolutely necessary.

2.How do I hide the floating window?

The floating window is enabled by default. You can hide it using any of the following three methods:
Method 1: Right-click the floating window and select Exit Floating Window
Method 2: Right-click the Wise Care 365 tray icon in the Windows notification area and uncheck Show Floating Window
Method 3: Go to Menu > Settings > Tray and deselect Display floating window automatically when running Wise Care 365.

3.I can’t see the floating window. How do I find it?

First, go to Menu > Settings > Tray and ensure Display floating window automatically when running Wise Care 365 is checked.
If it is still missing, move your mouse pointer along the left edge of your desktop from top to bottom; if the window was minimized to the edge, it should slide back out.
If the window remains hidden:
  1. 1. Close Wise Care 365 completely (including the tray icon).
  2. 2. Press Win + R, type %appdata%\Wise Care 365, and click OK.
  3. 3. Locate and delete the file config_tray.ini.
  4. 4. Relaunch Wise Care 365, and the floating window will reappear in the lower-right corner.

4.What information can the floating window display, and how do I change it?

The floating window can display six metrics: CPU Usage, CPU Temperature, Disk Temperature, Graphics Card Temperature, Mainboard Temperature, and Network Activity.
To customize this, go to Menu > Settings > Tray. Click the dropdown menu next to Customize Floating Window and select the item you wish to display.

5.How do I change the theme? Can I use my own pictures?

Wise Care 365 includes a variety of built-in themes. Click the Themes icon in the top-right corner to browse and apply them with a single click.
To use your own image, click Custom Image Theme and browse for your desired file. For the best results, we recommend an image size of 892 x 592 pixels.

6.Does Wise Care 365 supports non-English language, how do I change it?

Wise Care 365 supports English, French, Germany etc., over 34 languages. When you first open Wise Care 365, it will match your system language automatically.
And you can change language manually by clicking Custom icon on the top right->click Languages->select your language in the drop-down list.

7.How do I customize the items included in PC Checkup?

Go to Menu > Settings > Custom Checkup. Click a category name to expand it, then select or deselect the specific items you wish to include in your scans.

8.Why does Wise Care 365 freeze or close unexpectedly during a scan?

This often happens because ESET’s browser protection prevents third-party programs from accessing sensitive data like cookies and saved passwords. When Wise Care 365 attempts to scan these areas, ESET may block or terminate the process.
To resolve this, please refer to this community post

9.Is it safe to delete all the files found by Large File Management?

No. The Large File Management tool simply lists all files larger than 10MB on your selected partition; it does not determine if they are safe to remove. You must manually review each file before deleting it. You can adjust search criteria, such as file size and type, in the Advanced Settings.

10.My boot time was 25 seconds, but disabling one item reduced it by 30 seconds. How is that possible?

This happens because the two metrics are calculated differently. System startup time is measured from the motherboard's self-test until the desktop loads.
However, certain programs or services continue to initialize in the background after the desktop appears. Disabling such an item can reduce the total background load by a duration that may technically exceed the initial boot time measurement.

11.How do I change temperature unit?

The default unit is Fahrenheit, you can change it to Celsius.
Go to Menu > Settings > General. Click the drop-down menu after Temperature Unite and select ℃. Click Save button to save settings and close window.

12.Will Disk Eraser delete my files or format my disk?

No. Disk Eraser specifically targets free space where data has already been deleted. It will not affect your existing files or format your drive.

13.Why did my disk space decrease after running Disk Eraser?

This usually happens if the erasure process was interrupted, leaving behind the temporary zero-byte files used to fill the free space.
To reclaim this space, open Wise Care 365 and go to System Cleaner > Advanced Cleaner to scan and clean the drive.
Disk Eraser works by filling free space with data and then deleting it to ensure previously deleted files cannot be recovered.

14.What is the difference between Disk Eraser and File Shredder?

Disk Eraser wipes the free space of an entire partition to prevent the recovery of files you have already deleted.
File Shredder is used to delete existing files or folders so they can never be recovered.
Use File Shredder for specific items and Disk Eraser for general privacy across a whole drive.

15.What exactly does Wise Protection do?

Wise Protection is a real-time monitor that alerts you if a program attempts to modify critical registry keys. It protects sensitive areas such as your Internet Explorer homepage, startup items, default browser settings, installed services/drivers, context menus, and image hijacking settings.

16.Why does Wise Protection still show prompts after I checked 'No longer show this location'?

Checking No longer show this location only stops notifications for that specific registry entry; Wise Protection continues to monitor all other critical areas.
You can manage your protected items by going to Menu > Settings > System Protection, where you can manually toggle protection on or off for individual entries.

17.Why didn't my computer speed up significantly after a cleanup?

The primary goal of Common Cleaner and Advanced Cleaner is to reclaim disk space. To achieve a noticeable boost in system performance, we recommend using the Startup Manager to disable unnecessary startup programs, services, and scheduled tasks.

18.Is Wise Care 365 an antivirus? Will it conflict with my existing security software?

No. Wise Care 365 is a system optimization and cleaning tool, not an antivirus program. It is designed to work alongside antivirus software and does not cause compatibility issues.

19.What is the difference between Common Cleaner, Advanced Cleaner, and System Slimming?

Common Cleaner: Removes standard junk like temporary files, logs, and third-party application caches from the system drive.
System Slimming: Removes redundant Windows components, such as downloaded update files and related backups, to significantly reduce the OS footprint.
Advanced Cleaner: Allows you to scan and remove specific junk file types across all connected drives.

20.What if Wise Care 365 accidentally deletes a system file?

While System Slimming does remove certain system files, they are chosen specifically because their removal does not impact stability. As a safety measure, Wise Care 365 automatically creates a System Restore Point before performing these operations, allowing you to revert changes if necessary.

21.What is the difference between the Free and Pro versions of Wise Care 365?

The Free version covers basic registry and disk cleaning. The Pro version unlocks: Wise Protection (real-time monitoring), automatic program updates, Big Files Manager, Startup Manager, Context Menu cleaner, and Privacy Eraser.

1.How to use Wise Data Recovery to recover my lost photos?

Open Wise data recovery folder->select the drive in which the lost files are->click Scan->find the folder at the left column->select those photos needed to be recovered on right column->Click Recover button
Or, type in the file extension in search field on the right of header area-----find those photos to be recovered-----Click Recover button

2.Does Wise Data Recovery can recover my SD card files?

Wise Data Recovery can recover kinds of devices, local disk, USB disk, memory card, removable devices and so on, only requirement is the file system must be NTFS or FAT.

3.Why the recovered files cannot be opened?

A file is saved as 2 parts on the storage device: directory info (which is comprised by file name, timestamp and size info, etc.) and data content. If the files with original file names and folder structures cannot be opened, one possible reason is the corrupted directory info. There is still a chance to recover the data with the Deep Scan.
After the deep scan, please check More Files in the left pane, click the type of file you want to recover, then select files in the right and click Recover. More details, please refer to How to use Deep Scan to restore files.

4.Can I recover the files back to the original drive?

No, we highly recommend saving the recover files to a different drive. But you can move it back to the original drive after restoring.
The storage structure of the lost files would be altered or damaged by any changes on the drive. If you save the recovered files back to the same drive, the original data structures and data content would be corrupted or overwritten, which causes permanent data loss. So you should prepare another disk to save the files.

5.What is “Good”, ”Poor”, ”Very Poor” and ”Lost” in the scan result?

Wise Data Recovery can find out many lost files from your device, but not all of them can be recovered.
Good: the file can be recovered
Poor: the file probably be recovered
Very Poor: the file is hard to recovered
Lost: the file cannot be recovered

6.What types of files can be recovered by Wise Data Recovery?

Wise Data Recovery can recover many types of files, photos/images (bmp, jpg, gif etc.), documents (Word, Excel, Text etc.), emails, audios, videos, archives etc.

1.My pinned Quick Access folders were deleted. How do I prevent this?

To keep your pinned folders intact, open Wise Disk Cleaner and go to Common Cleaner > Traces in Computer > Windows and Applications. Simply uncheck Taskbar Jump Lists. For a detailed guide on how to clear your history while preserving pinned items, please refer to this article: Keep the record for Quick Access.

2.Why is my C drive space constantly decreasing? Can Wise Disk Cleaner help?

System activity—such as browsing the internet, editing documents, running programs, or even just starting Windows—constantly generates temporary files and junk data on your C drive. If left uncleaned, this accumulated data will gradually consume your available disk space.
Wise Disk Cleaner is designed to identify and remove these trash files, temporary data, browser caches, and Recycle Bin contents to effectively free up your C drive.

3.Why do the same files appear in the scan results every time? Why does Wise Disk Cleaner report that 'xx files failed to be removed'?

Certain files cannot be deleted because they are currently being used by the system or other active applications. These are typically located in Windows or User temporary folders.
To force the deletion of these persistent files, we recommend running Wise Disk Cleaner in Safe Mode.

4.Why does Wise Disk Cleaner close automatically when scanning my browser?

This is typically caused by ESET’s browser protection, which prevents third-party tools from accessing sensitive data like saved passwords and cookies. If Wise Disk Cleaner attempts to scan these areas, ESET may block the process or forcibly terminate the program. You can find more details and a solution here: Wise Disk Cleaner Freezes While Scanning Browsers Cookies.

5.Why am I logged out of certain websites after a cleanup?

There are two main reasons for this:
  1. 1. Cookies: Websites use cookies to maintain your login session. If these are deleted, you will need to log back in.
  2. 2. Saved Credentials: Modern browsers offer to save and auto-fill your usernames and passwords.
By default, Wise Disk Cleaner does not select or clean saved passwords, cookies, or auto-fill data. If you find yourself logged out, please ensure these items are unchecked in the scan list before starting a cleanup.
Open Wise Disk Cleaner and go to Common Cleaner > Traces in Computer > Web Browser Trace, simply uncheck Saved passwords, Autocomplete form history, Cookies.

6.Is it safe to delete files found under System Slimming?

Yes. These files are redundant and can be safely removed without affecting system stability or performance. As an added safety measure, Wise Disk Cleaner automatically creates a System Restore Point before deletion, allowing you to easily revert your system if needed.

7.Can Wise Disk Cleaner automatically clean my Downloads folder?

While not enabled by default, you can include the Downloads folder in your Advanced Cleaner routine:
  1. 1. Go to Menu > Settings > Custom.
  2. 2. Click Add and select your Downloads folder.
  3. 3. Save your settings.
Note: Once configured, running an Advanced Clean will permanently delete all files in your Downloads folder. These files cannot be recovered.

8.Will disk defragmentation delete my files?

No. Defragmentation does not delete data. It simply reorganizes fragmented file segments—which are scattered across the drive—and moves them into contiguous blocks to improve file access speeds.

9.How often should I defragment my hard drive?

There is no fixed schedule. If you frequently add and delete large volumes of data, once a month is usually sufficient. If the drive is used primarily for long-term storage with infrequent changes, defragmentation is rarely necessary. We recommend against over-defragmenting, as excessive disk activity can slightly reduce a drive's overall lifespan.

10.Should I defragment my SSD?

No. You should never defragment an SSD. Defragmenting an SSD does not improve performance and will significantly shorten its lifespan by causing unnecessary wear. Instead, use the TRIM command. Wise Disk Cleaner’s optimization technology automatically detects your drive type: it will use TRIM for SSDs and Defragmentation for HDDs.

11.What is disk defragmentation?

Defragmentation is the process of reorganizing your hard drive's physical storage. It consolidates scattered file pieces into neat, continuous rows, which minimizes the movement of the drive's read/write heads. This reduces disk thrashing and significantly boosts data retrieval speeds. Think of it like tidying a messy bookshelf: instead of searching for chapters scattered across different rooms, defragging puts the whole book back together in one spot so you can grab it instantly.

12.Why does my browser cleanup fail or show errors?

Modern browsers must be fully closed during cleanup for Wise Disk Cleaner to access the SQL database files that store cookies and browsing history. If ESET's browser protection is active, it may block access and forcibly terminate the cleaner — disable ESET's browser shield or whitelist Wise Disk Cleaner in ESET's settings to resolve this.

13.Wise Disk Cleaner is not cleaning Google Chrome cookies even though I closed the browser. Why?

Some security software includes features designed to protect personal information saved by browsers—such as passwords, auto filled form data, and cookies. Please check your security software to see if it includes a feature labeled something like Browser Protection. If it does, please disable this feature and then run Wise Disk Cleaner again to clear your cookies.
If you cannot find this setting within your security software, please contact our customer support team and provide the name of your security software.

1.What are the difference between the 3 matching options?

Match Name and Size: Compare file names and sizes. Files are considered duplicates when both the filename AND file size match exactly. This is the fastest scanning method, but may occasionally flag false matches.
Partial Match: Compare file sizes and partial content. Files are only flagged as duplicates if they have the exact same size AND the sampled content matches. This method offers medium scanning speed with almost no false positives.
Exact Match: Compare full file contents. Files are only marked as duplicates if they are 100% identical in content. This is the most accurate method but also the slowest since it checks every byte.

2.What is the difference between the Free and Pro?

The only difference between the Free version and Pro version of Wise Duplicate Finder is the Keep One function.

3.Why does wise duplicate finder not back up files?

Wise Duplicate Finder can back up files before deleting. If it doesn't do back up, please check the following 3 settings:
  1. 1. Click Menu - Settings, the second option Auto backup selected file before permanently deleting is activated.
  2. 2. The backup folder has enough disk space.
  3. 3. Using the button Delete Selected at the bottom to delete files, not Delete this file in the context menu.
If you right-click on a file and choose Delete this file, Wise Duplicate Finder doesn't backup it.

4.How to use Duplicate Finder on a mapped network drive?

Wise Duplicate Finder supports finding duplicate files on a network drive, provided that you have access to the network drive.
Please click the button Select Folder, scroll to the bottom, and then click Add Folder, type the network drive address in the pop-up window, e.g., \\192.168.0.123\A\.
